Where's Willi?

Participants were invited to find William Henry Brown, who was in the audience at the grand opening of the Co-Operative Emporium and Bakery in Blackpool. Having found W.H.B in the audience, I invited participants to throw buns dipped in paint at the person they thought most likely to be W.H.B. There were prizes. The part of the game participants were not in control of was where the buns landed. Those who landed in Neverland were lucky; able to fly anywhere, navigate by the stars and choose to stay eternally young. Those whose buns had landed in choppier waters needed all the help they could get, they were given additional help in the form of special visas to Never Ever Land. These cup creature visas had many legs, representing co-operative values.

Curious about co-operative values? They are; caring for others, democracy, equity, honesty, openness, self-help, self-responsibility, solidarity, social responsibility.

The happenstance of one’s birthplace and the concept of birthright are themes I keep coming back to in my art practice.
